Marcos Jr.'s SONA on July 28 amid weather warnings

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) is set for July 28, with Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla urging the President to proceed despite severe weather conditions.

The Philippines continues to face three weather systems: tropical storm Emong, Dante, and the southwest monsoon, which have caused significant flooding and displaced thousands of Filipinos.

Remulla emphasized that proceeding with the SONA would demonstrate government resilience during these challenging times.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin had previously suspended all preparations for the SONA after reports surfaced of government personnel setting up materials in public areas while communities faced severe flooding.

Senators including JV Ejercito, Loren Legarda, and Migz Zubiri have called for a toned-down occasion out of respect for those affected by the heavy rains and floods.
