Marcos Jr. sends Galvez to Ukraine Peace Summit instead

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. will not personally attend the Ukraine Peace Summit in Switzerland next week, contrary to an earlier pronouncement made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The Philippine president has instead tasked Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity Carlito Galvez Jr. to represent the Philippines at the summit.

During his visit to Manila last week, Zelenskyy personally invited Marcos to participate in the event, expressing hope for Filipino support.

Switzerland has received over 90 registrations from states and organizations for the peace summit, which aims to lay out provisions of Ukraine's peace plan to end the ongoing Russian invasion.

The gathering will address issues such as nuclear security, food security, and detention of war prisoners, among others.
