Marcos highlights tourism's job creation potential

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. emphasized the potential of the tourism sector to create jobs during his fourth State of the Nation Address on Monday, July 28.

Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco expressed full support and gratitude for the President's recognition of tourism as a key economic pillar, noting that the industry employs 6.75 million Filipinos and indirectly employs another 10 million.

The Department of Tourism highlighted internal tourism expenditures reaching PHP3.86 trillion in 2024, marking a 13.12 percent increase from the previous year.

Tourism stands ready to help meet the challenge of finding opportunities for the remaining four percent of unemployed Filipinos within President Marcos's term.

The DOT will continue to build a globally competitive tourism industry that generates more jobs for Filipinos and works alongside other agencies to provide loans for micro, small, and medium enterprises in tourism.

Frasco welcomed Marcos' call to develop the Halal industry and enhance tourist experience through infrastructure projects.
