Marcos Jr declares Jan 9 special holiday for Manila Nazareno feast

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has declared January 9, 2025, as a special non-working holiday in the City of Manila to observe the Feast of Jesus Nazareno.

The proclamation aims to ensure orderly procession and facilitate traffic flow during the event, which began with barangay visitations from January 1 to 6 and will culminate in the Traslacion procession on January 9.

Millions of devotees are expected to participate in the annual Traslacion procession from Quirino Grandstand in Rizal Park to Quiapo Church on January 9, following a series of activities including First Friday Masses and an overnight vigil.

To maintain security, over 14,000 police officers will be deployed across the route and areas, with additional augmentation forces provided by the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
