Marcos Jr. appoints UP Law dean Berberabe as SG

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. appointed UP College of Law dean Darlene Marie Berberabe as the new Solicitor General, replacing Menardo Guevarra.

Berberabe took her oath on Thursday at Malacañang and is expected to bring strong philosophical insights to her role, according to Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.

Guevarra expressed happiness for Berberabe, noting that she will perform well in her new position due to her extensive legal and management experience.

Prior to this appointment, Berberabe served as the CEO of Pag-IBIG Fund and was a contender for the Supreme Court Associate Justice position before its recent vacancy.

Speaker Martin Romualdez commended Berberabe's qualifications, highlighting her intellect, experience, and independence in leading the government’s legal team amid complex constitutional issues.
