Marcos Jr. appoints Fernandez as new BFP chief

President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. appointed Jesus Piedad Fernandez as the new chief of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) on April 11, 2025.

Fernandez succeeds Louie Puracan who retired in November 2024 and will lead modernization efforts within the BFP.

Prior to his appointment, Fernandez served as officer-in-charge under DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla's designation with extensive experience in various roles including Director for Logistics and Comptrollership, Regional Director of Region 4-A, Chief Directorial Staff, and Acting Deputy Chief for Administration.

Fernandez is a member of the Philippine National Police Academy 'Sandigan' Class of 1994 and has previously served as City Fire Marshal in Tuguegarao and District Fire Marshal in Quezon City.

Now assuming command of the 38,000-strong Philippine fire service, his thrusts from standardization to modernization are anticipated to take center stage in his term.
