Marcos inaugurates PHP2.55B Mactan-Cebu Airport runway

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. inaugurated a new PHP2.55 billion runway at Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) Thursday as part of the government's PHP7.7 billion Aviation Infrastructure Program.

Marcos highlighted that this program aims to upgrade 15 airports nationwide, focusing on enhancing facilities and improving connectivity across the archipelago.

The new MCIA runway is the country's first parallel runway, designed to handle increased air traffic demand and ensure continuous airport operations during emergencies or maintenance.

In 2024, MCIA reported significant growth with over 11.3 million passengers, marking a 13 percent increase in domestic travelers and a 12 percent rise in international visitors.

The new runway is projected to improve the MCIA's operational efficiency, allowing for more flights and boosting its role as a key gateway to the Visayas and Mindanao.
