Marcos praises OFWs for USD37B remittances

On Monday, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. recognized the significant contribution of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to the economy during his third and longest State of the Nation Address.

He cited data showing that OFW remittances reached over USD37 billion in 2023, contributing PHP30 billion specifically to the country's recovering economy.

Marcos highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting OFWs through partnerships with other countries and initiatives such as the UN resolution on seafarers' rights, ensuring safe working conditions at sea.

The president also mentioned additional services provided for OFWs, including the OFW Lounge in NAIA and Seafarer's Hub in Manila, along with assistance during conflicts and natural disasters.

Marcos assured returning OFWs of support to find new jobs or start businesses, emphasizing the government’s dedication to their well-being.
