Marcos extends PH state of calamity until year-end

President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. extended the state of calamity due to the coronavirus pandemic until December 31, 2022.

The extension allows for continued economic, social, and health interventions by the national government and local government units (LGUs).

Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos welcomed the move, stating it will provide more time to mitigate and prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles noted that the state of calamity is extended for possibly three months but only for specific benefits such as indemnification, emergency procurement, and special risk allowance for healthcare workers.
