Marcos stresses teacher support, plans P50K entry-level salary

President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. emphasized the importance of supporting teachers during an interview in Sulu on Friday.

Marcos directed incoming Education Secretary Sonny Angara to ensure that teachers receive financial support for their families and can focus on teaching without worrying about personal concerns, noting that teachers must be supported both financially and through retraining programs.

The president highlighted that teacher retraining is crucial for enhancing skills and capabilities within the education sector, especially in light of rapid technological changes.

Angara plans to study a proposal to increase entry-level salaries for public school teachers to P50,000 under the Marcos Jr. administration.

In addition to higher salaries, Angara aims to improve working conditions by reducing non-teaching tasks for teachers so they can concentrate on their primary duties and address issues like stunting among children through enhanced feeding programs.
