Marcos appoints Baddiri, Acebido as CA justices

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has appointed Hon. Edilwasif Tapsiril Baddiri and Hon. Jeoffre Willkom Acebido as Associate Justices of the Court of Appeals (CA), enhancing the appellate court with experienced jurists from Mindanao.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin confirmed the appointments on Wednesday, noting that Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo administered the oaths of office for both justices at separate ceremonies held at the Supreme Court in Manila: Baddiri on April 11 and Acebido on April 14.

Baddiri replaces retired CA Justice Edwin Sorongon and brings extensive public service and judicial experience to the court, having served as Presiding Judge and Executive Judge of Branch 115, Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Pasay City from 2015 to 2023, and Commissioner of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) from 2010 to 2015.

Acebido, who has been a judge for over 16 years, held the position of Presiding Judge of Branch 41, RTC in Cagayan de Oro before his appointment and is recognized with the Chief Justice Cayetano Arellano Award for Judicial Excellence.
