Marcos, Anwar agree to boost ASEAN cooperation on security and trade

Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim agreed to enhance ASEAN cooperation to tackle regional security and trade challenges during a phone call on May 2.

The leaders discussed ways to address economic and security issues ahead of Malaysia's hosting of the ASEAN summits this month.

Prime Minister Anwar highlighted Malaysia's potential to demonstrate its importance in global tariff negotiations with the US, noting that delayed tariffs provide time for further discussions.

Anwar also expressed support for extending the ceasefire in Myanmar to ensure humanitarian aid reaches those in need without discrimination or restrictions.

The Malaysian leader wished Marcos success in the upcoming midterm elections as he continues his campaign efforts.
