Mandaluyong barangay offers P1 for every 5 dead mosquitoes to fight dengue

Barangay Addition Hills in Mandaluyong City has launched an initiative called 'May Piso sa Mosquito' to combat rising dengue cases.

Residents can earn one peso for every five dead mosquitoes or larvae they collect and surrender, aiming to encourage community participation in eliminating breeding grounds.

Despite initial concerns about health risks, Barangay Chairman Carlito Cerlan assured that the program is temporary and complements existing government efforts against dengue.

Barangay Addition Hills currently has 44 recorded dengue patients, including two fatalities, making it the most affected area in Mandaluyong.

The barangay conducts fogging operations, cleanup drives, and public awareness campaigns while also reminding residents to eliminate stagnant water sources.

Chairman Cerlan emphasized that community cooperation is crucial in fighting dengue and stressed the importance of balancing public health concerns with mosquito control efforts.

The Department of Health is monitoring eight other local governments across Calabarzon, Central Luzon, and the National Capital Region due to a concerning rise in dengue cases.
