1 killed, 1 injured in election-related attack in Zamboanga del Sur

One person was killed and another injured in suspected election-related violence in Zamboanga del Sur on Monday, May 12.

An armed group allegedly harassed a rival political group during the election, leading to an attack that left one victim fatally wounded at a hospital and his driver slightly injured with a head injury.

The victims were found by police who responded to a report past midnight in Purok 3, Barangay Guinicolalay, Dinas.

Authorities discovered two abandoned pick-up trucks with firearms and ammunition at the scene, including an assault rifle and cash amounting to P12,600.

Police are conducting ballistic examinations on recovered weapons and have assured that they will pursue justice for the perpetrators through a hot pursuit operation.

The incident has been described as a 'senseless act of violence' by Col. Bonifacio Aranas Jr., the Zamboanga del Sur Philippine National Police Provincial Director.

Elections continue in the municipality, with authorities assuring public safety.
