Malacañang criticizes Bato, Baste over AI-generated disinfo video

Malacañang criticized Senator Ronald 'Bato' dela Rosa and Davao City Mayor Sebastian 'Baste' Duterte on Monday for sharing an AI-generated video on social media, describing their actions as irresponsible and damaging to public trust.

The video featured two male students expressing opposition to the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte but was revealed to be fake despite being labeled with the hashtag #AI.

Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro said in a press briefing that such actions by public officials undermine government efforts to combat disinformation.

Castro emphasized that it is troubling when disinformation and fake news come from top officials, as this further erodes trust among citizens.

The Palace official noted the quick correction of the misinformation by the public and reiterated the administration's ongoing efforts to fight fake news.

Undersecretary Castro urged the involved officials to acknowledge their mistake and take accountability for sharing false content with the public.
