Malacanang challenges Davao City Mayor Duterte's claims on crime leniency

Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro pointed out during a Palace press conference that crime rates were higher during former President Rodrigo Duterte's term compared to the current administration based on statistics.

Castro advised Mayor Duterte to consult with lawyers and study records before making claims about the current president's leniency towards criminal activities, emphasizing that the crime rate was higher during his father's time.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported a 26.76% decrease in focus crimes from January 1 to February 14, 2025, compared to the same period last year.

Despite recent viral videos of crime incidents on social media, PNP Chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil emphasized that these platforms aid investigations and help bring criminals to justice.

The administration encourages responsible reporting through social media as a tool for safety rather than panic.
