Flood forces 123 families to evacuate in Magpet, Cotabato

Villagers in Magpet town, Cotabato, were forced to evacuate to higher ground due to flooding from a river overflow on Sunday night.

Local authorities reported that around 123 families near the Bantac River have been relocated by emergency responders who provided essential relief support.

The flash flood affected approximately 200 hectares of corn and orchard farms, causing significant damage according to barangay officials and disaster management personnel.

Cotabato Governor Emmylou Taliño-Mendoza has directed her provincial agriculture office to assess the crop damages and assist farmers in rehabilitating their flooded farmlands.

Magpet Mayor Laurence Jay Gonzaga declared a state of calamity, allowing the local government to use disaster risk response funds for immediate assistance and road rehabilitation.

Emergency relief efforts continue as authorities work to ensure the safety and support of those displaced by the flooding.
