Luigi Villafuerte wins Camarines Sur 2nd District seat

The son of Camarines Sur's outgoing governor, Luigi Villafuerte, has succeeded his father, LRay Villafuerte, as the new representative for the province's 2nd District.

In the recent election, Luigi secured 104,688 votes against Fermin Mabulo who received 59,670 votes based on partial Comelec results released on May 13.

The Villafuerte family has been a dominant political force in Camarines Sur for over four decades, with Luigi joining the ranks after his brother and father held various positions in the provincial government.

Luigi was first elected as governor at age 26 in 2022, replacing his older brother Migz who had served from 2013 to 2022.

The family's political lineage includes LRay serving three terms as governor and currently handing over his role as representative to Luigi, illustrating the continuous transfer of power within the clan.

Camarines Sur's 2nd District, comprising seven municipalities in the western part of the province, has seen a shift from the Arroyo clan dominance since 2016 when the Villafuertes took control following Leni Robredo's win as congresswoman for their original stronghold.
