LTO investigates viral video of drowsy driver

On Friday, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) initiated an investigation into a viral video showing a driver falling asleep at the wheel and causing property damage in Quezon City.

The LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II stated that they need to verify whether the incident was due to a medical condition or another reason.

In the video, the black Ford Ranger slowly moved along Visayas Avenue as other motorists tried to wake up the driver by honking and throwing rocks.

A show cause order has been issued summoning the registered owner of the vehicle to explain who the actual driver was and whether they were under the influence of alcohol or had a medical condition.

The possible violations being investigated include reckless driving, driving under the influence, and operating a motor vehicle without proper authorization.

The vehicle's registration has been placed on temporary alarm to prevent any transactions with the LTO until the investigation is complete.
