LTO files charges against motorist who hit officer during drug raid

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has filed criminal and administrative charges against motorcycle rider Roger Ymas who hit an enforcer while attempting to flee after being flagged for road safety violations in Antipolo City on Saturday.

Ymas faces charges under Republic Act 4136 for resistance and disobedience to authority, as well as Section 11 of RA 9165 for possession of illegal drugs following the discovery of plastic sachets confirmed to contain shabu.

During the incident near St. Anthony Parish Church, Ymas was flagged for not wearing a helmet but instead tried to evade enforcers by making a fast U-turn, resulting in a crash and hitting an officer.

The rider was arrested at the scene and taken to the police station with his motorcycle where sachets containing illegal drugs were found on him.

LTO chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza emphasized that respect for traffic enforcers is mandatory for obtaining a license and vowed to ensure Ymas learns from this experience.
