LTFRB investigates bus firm over animal cruelty and disability discrimination

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is investigating Pangasinan Solid North Transit Inc. following two separate complaints involving animal cruelty and disrespect towards a person with disability.

On April 18, a conductor allegedly threw a pet carrier containing a cat into the baggage compartment, prompting the owner to leave the bus before reaching her destination out of concern for her pet's welfare.

Another incident on April 20 involved a conductor mocking a child with disability by calling them 'pipi' or deaf-mute, violating agency rules designed to ensure passenger safety in public transportation.

LTFRB Chairperson Atty. Teofilo Guadiz III emphasized that operators must treat every commuter and their pets with respect and reminded passengers of the guidelines for traveling with animals on public transport.

The bus company has acknowledged the complaints and is currently investigating them, while Anna Cabrera of the Philippine Animal Welfare Society offered assistance to the cat owner in filing a complaint if needed.
