Taxi driver returns PHP2.4M backpack, hailed by authorities

Taxi driver Anthony Barredo Aguirre, 52, from Barangay Amparo in Pavia town of Iloilo City, has been commended by local and national authorities for returning a backpack containing PHP2.4 million left behind by passengers on January 17.

In recognition of his actions, Mayor Jerry Treñas conferred on Aguirre the title of Honorary Citizen and rewarded him with PHP20,000.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Chair Teofilo Guadiz III lauded Aguirre's 'honesty and integrity,' calling him a model for everyone in the transport sector.

Captain Lester Oliveros of Police Station 8 commended Aguirre for his integrity despite financial challenges, highlighting that returning lost items aligns with their values.

Aguirre's family expressed pride in his character and the recognition he received from Mayor Treñas.
