LRT-1 fare increase starts April 2, single tickets at ₱20

Commuters will pay higher fares for rides on Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) starting April 2, 2025, following the Department of Transportation's approval.

Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC), LRT-1's private concessionaire, announced that single journey tickets will start at ₱20 and end-to-end journeys will cost ₱55 for a single ticket, while stored value card users will pay ₱52.

The new fare formula includes a minimum boarding fee of ₱16.25 and a per-kilometer travel cost of ₱1.47, up from the previous rates.

LRMC CEO Enrico Benipayo justified the fare hike by highlighting improvements in LRT-1's reliability and availability since the private takeover in 2015, noting that deferred fare increases have resulted in a cumulative deficit of P2.17 billion as of November 2024.

Benipayo emphasized regular fare adjustments are necessary to sustain operational upgrades and system expansions, such as the completion of phase 1 of the LRT-1 Cavite extension last year.
