Magat Dam continues releasing excess water

Magat Dam in Northern Luzon has been releasing excess water through its gates since November due to heavy rainfall from recent typhoons.

As of Saturday morning, the dam was discharging nearly 800 cubic meters per second of water through Gates 3 and 4.

The current water level at Magat Dam is 189.34 meters above sea level, only 3.66 meters below its normal high level of 193 meters.

Residents in the Cagayan Valley region have been warned about potential flooding due to ongoing heavy rains and continued gate openings.

PAGASA forecasts further rainfall for December, which could raise water levels even higher, necessitating continued spilling operations.
