Legarda urges global commitment to climate action on UN's 80th anniversary

Senator Loren Legarda called on the international community to reinforce its commitment to multilateralism as the United Nations marked 80 years of fostering global unity.

Legarda emphasized that climate action, disaster resilience, and sustainability must remain at the heart of global cooperation, reflecting her decades-long collaboration with the UN and its agencies.

Through her legislative work, she has helped align national policies with UN environmental goals, championing laws such as the Climate Change Act of 2009 and the People's Survival Fund Act of 2012.

Beyond legislation, Legarda has played a key role in shaping international climate policies, earning recognition from various UN bodies for her leadership, including being named a UNEP Global 500 Laureate and a National Adaptation Plan Champion by the UNFCCC.

Under the 2024 General Appropriations Act, she secured funding to support activities leading up to the 2025 UN Ocean Conference in Nice, France.
