Roque faces SC disbarment case over fake video posts

Former Palace spokesperson Harry Roque faces a disbarment case filed by former Cabinet secretary Atty. Melvin Matibag before the Supreme Court on Tuesday morning.

Matibag cited Roque's social media postings, including fake videos involving public figures, as the reason for filing the complaint, aiming to give the court an opportunity to set guidelines on proper use of social media platforms by lawyers.

The lawyer emphasized that posting such content compromises professional standards and responsibilities expected of officers of the court.

Roque dismissed the disbarment case as a desperate act for attention and noted that complaints of disbarment should be handled confidentially.

He also argued that posting videos on social media is protected under free speech principles, particularly when it involves matters of national security.
