Landslide in Talisay kills at least 14, two missing

At least 14 people have died and two remain missing after a landslide in Barangay Sampaloc, Talisay, Batangas, following severe rains from Severe Tropical Storm Kristine on Friday, October 25.

Police confirmed that out of the eight bodies initially retrieved from the landslide, five were minors and three were adults.

The search and retrieval operation for the missing individuals is ongoing despite hazardous conditions.

Talisay Mayor Nestor Natanauan stated in a Facebook post that the town has been severely affected by the storm, resulting in flooding and landslides in several barangays.

In Talisay alone, 311 families or 1,457 individuals are currently staying in evacuation centers, with over 5,000 families displaced across Batangas province.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office reported that 133 houses were completely destroyed while 567 sustained partial damage.
