Lagman criticizes Sara Duterte for personal travel during Carina floods

On Thursday, Albay Representative Edcel Lagman criticized Vice President Sara Duterte for traveling abroad during heavy rains and flooding caused by tropical cyclone Carina.

The Office of the Vice President confirmed that Duterte's trip was a personal one and had received necessary approvals from the Office of the President dated July 9, 2024.

Lagman said Duterte’s lack of empathy is appalling as many areas are in a state of emergency due to the flooding.

He emphasized that public leaders should demonstrate selflessness during times of national calamities and emergencies.

Former Vice President Leni Robredo's Angat Buhay Foundation was highlighted for its ongoing relief efforts, inspiring volunteerism among citizens.

Lagman argued that Duterte could have postponed her trip to address the needs of the victims as a genuine public servant.
