Lacson denies meeting Duterte, cites impeachment rules

Senator-elect Panfilo Lacson denied on Tuesday rumors that he had recently met with Vice President Sara Duterte.

Lacson emphasized that as a potential judge in the impeachment trial against Duterte, it would be improper for him to meet with her given the ongoing proceedings.

He noted that under normal circumstances, newly elected senators may pay courtesy calls to the vice president but this is not appropriate during an impeachment trial.

Lacson also commented on President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s call for reconciliation with the Duterte family, suggesting the need for a strong 'bastonero' or platoon leader in his Cabinet to ensure good governance.

The senator-elect claimed he would be well-suited for this role due to his experience as former chief of the Philippine National Police.
