Fort Santiago undergoes restorative cleaning

Fort Santiago in Intramuros underwent a thorough restorative cleaning to preserve its cultural heritage, marking the beginning of efforts to maintain historical sites in the area.

Intramuros Administration (IA) Director Joan Padilla emphasized that the project aims to unveil the 'full magnificence' and grandeur of Fort Santiago, which has endured centuries of natural disasters and wars but remains a testament to Philippine resilience.

The cleaning initiative is a partnership between IA and Kärcher, using hot water high-pressure cleaners to remove biological growth gently without damaging the stone walls, allowing restorers to assess structural damage more effectively.

Kärcher Philippines trained IA staff on how to use the cleaning machines properly for future maintenance efforts, aligning with their 90th anniversary challenge of conducting 90 cleaning projects worldwide in public places and historic structures.

Fort Santiago is one of nine historical landmarks in the country to benefit from Kärcher's restoration efforts, highlighting the growing awareness among Filipinos about heritage conservation.
