Phivolcs raises Kanlaon Volcano alert to Level 1

Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island was raised to Alert Level 1 on Wednesday due to increased seismic activity.

Phivolcs recorded 80 volcanic earthquakes since March 9, with 77 low-frequency events associated with magmatic fluids beneath the volcano.

The growing number of earthquakes could lead to steam-driven or phreatic eruptions at the summit crater, despite no visible degassing or steaming from the active vent.
