Justin Brownlee receives adverse drug test notice from SBP

Justin Brownlee, Barangay Ginebra's import player and Gilas Pilipinas member, received a notice for an adverse analytical finding from the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) on Monday, March 31.

Brownlee is currently dealing with the situation aided by his US-based lawyers, while FIBA has not yet issued any ruling.

The veteran forward's previous suspension in 2023 for testing positive for Carboxy-THC, linked to cannabis use, resulted in a three-month ban during Season 48's Governors' Cup.

Brownlee played in all three windows of the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers and also saw action in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, putting in yet another heroic performance as Gilas had a stellar semifinal run marked by a stunning upset of world No. 6 Latvia.

Concerns remain about the potential consequences this new finding could have on Brownlee's career and immediate basketball commitments, especially with Gilas Pilipinas already missing star center Kai Sotto for the year due to an ACL tear.
