Jun Lozada released from prison after serving minimum sentence

Whistleblower Rodolfo Noel 'Jun' Lozada Jr., who exposed the NBN-ZTE deal during the Arroyo administration, was released from New Bilibid Prison on May 9 along with his brother Jose Orlando Lozada.

Lozada and his brother were freed after serving their minimum sentences and becoming eligible for parole following a recommendation by the Board of Pardons and Parole.

In an interview with ANC on Thursday, Jun Lozada expressed that he only learned about his release just days before it happened, describing the experience as surreal.

The Sandiganbayan found the siblings guilty of graft in August 2016 for awarding the lease contract of public land to Orlando without following regular procedures.

In 2021, the Supreme Court denied their petition for review and upheld their sentences with modifications ranging from six years and one month to ten years and one day.

Jun Lozada emphasized the importance of authenticity and commitment to truth upon his release.
