January inflation may have cooled due to a favorable base effect, despite rising fuel and food prices.

Higher electricity costs in the previous year could have offset current price increases.

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) will not release its forecast for January while waiting for the Philippine Statistics Authority's (PSA) new 2018-based consumer price index (CPI).

Analysts predict January inflation to be at 3%, within the BSP’s target band of 2-4%.
