Isang prompts Binga Dam to open gate; PAGASA raises TCWS Signal No. 1

On Saturday morning, one gate of Binga Dam in Itogon, Benguet was opened as Tropical Storm Isang approached, prompting PAGASA to raise a Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over Benguet and 12 other areas.

As of 8 a.m., the dam had one gate open at 0.3 meters, releasing water at a rate of 37 cubic meters per second (cms), with the reservoir level at 573.55 meters, nearing the 575-meter spilling threshold.

PAGASA warned that Benguet and the Cordillera Administrative Region would experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms throughout the day due to Isang.

Isang exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility at 6:30 a.m. but is expected to gradually intensify into a typhoon while moving towards Hainan, China.
