Simple flag ceremonies mark PH Independence Day amid pandemic

Local government units in Manila, Kawit, Cavite, and San Juan held simple flag-raising ceremonies on Friday, June 12, to mark the Philippines' 122nd Independence Day amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Due to health protocols, mass gatherings were prohibited, resulting in a clean and nearly empty Rizal Park with only a few government officials present.

The theme for this year's celebration was 'Kalayaan 2020: Tungo sa Bansang Malay, Nagbabayanihan, at Ligtas,' emphasizing the importance of unity and safety during the pandemic.
