Iloilo River Esplanade wins 2024 Asian Townscape Award

The Iloilo City River Esplanade has received the 2024 Asian Townscape Award, reaffirming its role as a model of sustainability and urban excellence.

Stretching over 9 kilometers along both sides of the Iloilo River, it is the longest linear park in the Philippines with 13 sections connected by 11 bridges and traverses seven city districts.

Mayor Jerry Treñas emphasized that the award highlights the project's success and comes at an opportune time during the 44th CityNet Executive Committee Meeting.

Former Senator Franklin Drilon's leadership was crucial to the development of the Iloilo River as a symbol of urban sustainability, with his efforts transforming it into a source of pride for residents.

City Planning and Development Office head Ronald Cartagena accepted the award in Fukuoka, Japan on Monday, while the city also received a special trophy for the Livable City Award during an event on Tuesday.
