Iloilo mayor probes flawed flood control projects

The city government of Iloilo expressed support for President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s investigation into contractors involved in flood control projects.

Mayor Raisa Treñas revealed that four major flood control projects in Iloilo City, managed by St. Timothy Construction Corp. and Alpha & Omega General Contractor & Development Corp., are either non-functional or causing flooding instead of preventing it.

Treñas cited specific details about the problematic projects, including two sections of a Lapuz district project valued at PHP300 million each with an original completion date of December 16, 2024, and another section in Iloilo City worth PHP125 million.

The mayor urged the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to thoroughly investigate these projects due to their defects and potential harm to public safety.

Treñas emphasized that delays, deficiencies, or misuse of public funds must be addressed, stressing the need for transparency and accountability in these flood control initiatives.
