Iloilo Mayor bans alcohol at Sunset Boulevard, implements new safety measures

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas announced an immediate ban on alcoholic drinks at the newly-opened Sunset Boulevard effective February 3.

Treñas stated that he would issue an executive order prohibiting drinking until a comprehensive ordinance is passed to address public safety concerns, emphasizing the unexpected magnitude of visitors and garbage left behind.

To enforce the ban, the mayor plans to request the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to conduct breathalyzer tests and sobriety checks on drivers in the area.

The city government will place temporary garbage bins for better waste management and round up stray dogs with assistance from the City Veterinarian's office.

Ambulant vendors will be allowed but must obtain necessary permits, while police visibility and enforcement of existing ordinances like curfew hours for minors and anti-littering policies will be increased.
