ICC issues arrest warrant for Duterte; confirmation hearing set for Sept 23

Defense lawyers for former President Rodrigo Duterte received initial evidence in the crimes against humanity case filed against him at the International Criminal Court.

The prosecution disclosed 181 items to the defense on March 21, organized under Pre-Confirmation INCRIM package 001, excluding certain confidential materials.

On March 7, the ICC issued a warrant for Duterte's arrest, which was made public on March 11, based on reasonable grounds that he is responsible as an indirect co-perpetrator in crimes against humanity of murder committed between November 2011 and March 2019.

Duterte was arrested in Manila last Tuesday, March 11, following the issuance of this warrant.

Currently, Duterte remains in ICC custody while the case proceeds, with a confirmation of charges hearing scheduled for September 23.
