House leaders dismiss VP Duterte's impeachment remarks as diversionary tactics

House leaders in the Philippines dismissed Vice President Sara Duterte's remarks about potential impeachment as 'diversionary tactics,' urging her to address allegations of fund misuse and negligence in handling confidential funds.

Assistant Majority Leader Jefferson Khonghun emphasized that the ongoing investigation focuses on the mismanagement of PHP612.5 million in confidential funds by the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd).

Manila 3rd District Representative Joel Chua clarified that impeachment is not currently being discussed but stressed the need for legislative measures to prevent similar instances of fund misuse.

The House committee chair reiterated their focus on ongoing hearings and legislative work, underscoring their commitment to addressing public concerns regarding government funds.

Deputy Majority Leader Paolo Ortega echoed Khonghun's sentiment, emphasizing the importance of staying focused on the truth and continuation of hearings as part of their duty to the public.

Despite ongoing investigations, House leaders have not prioritized impeachment discussions, maintaining that legislative work remains their primary focus.
