House approves Special Committee on ASEAN; Rep Romualdez elected chair

On Wednesday, August 20, 2025, the House of Representatives approved the creation of a Special Committee on ASEAN affairs.

Tingog Party-list Rep. Yedda Romualdez, wife of House Speaker Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr., was elected as the committee's chairperson.

The new panel will oversee Philippine participation and commitments within ASEAN and its affiliated bodies, including the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.

Its primary role is to promote regional cooperation, align domestic legislation with ASEAN agreements, and enhance the Philippines' position in ASEAN affairs through legislative actions and policy dialogue.

The committee consists of 35 members and will serve as a key parliamentary body for these initiatives.
