DICT warns hospitals of potential cyber-attacks

The DICT issued an advisory on Tuesday warning of potential cyber-attacks targeting hospitals and healthcare facilities in the Philippines.

The department cited a report by Healthcare IT News UK about a ransomware attack on a Czech hospital serving as a COVID-19 test facility, which resulted in a technical shutdown during the pandemic.

To prevent similar incidents, the DICT urged Philippine hospitals to implement emergency backup systems for databases and infrastructure to ensure operational continuity in case of outages caused by malware or cyberattacks.
