Hontiveros calls for PH-China cooperation against POGO-linked crimes

Senator Risa Hontiveros called on the Philippine government to work closely with China in combating transnational crimes associated with illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).

Hontiveros made this statement following a meeting between Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian and Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) chairman Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, who discussed measures to address POGO-related criminal activities.

The senator emphasized the need for cooperation between the Philippines and China to ensure that deported criminals do not return to the country, citing concerns about their potential ties with the Chinese state.

Bersamin chairs the PAOCC, which has been leading efforts against illegal POGOs, including rescue operations and raids uncovering equipment used in alleged crimes.

Both sides agreed to enhance law enforcement cooperation and jointly combat transnational crime during the meeting on Monday, July 1, aiming to protect the lives and property of people in both countries.
