Poe stresses print media's role in fighting fake news

Senator Grace Poe emphasized the importance of print media in combating fake news during her speech at the induction of officers and general membership meeting of the United Print and Multimedia Group at the Manila Hotel on Wednesday, March 26.

Poe highlighted that while social media is fast and viral, traditional print journalism upholds ethical practices such as fact-checking, making it more trusted by the public.

She noted that a January 2023 global study showed 71 percent of respondents believe reading printed materials offers a deeper understanding of stories compared to online content.

Poe acknowledged the influence of digital platforms like Facebook and TikTok on public opinion and election outcomes but stressed the importance of accurate information in a democratic state.

The senator suggested that print and digital media are complementary, with each offering unique strengths that can be leveraged together for effective information dissemination.
