Grab tests drone deliveries with Megaworld, DOTr, DICT

Superapp Grab has launched a pilot test of drone-powered delivery services in Metro Manila alongside Megaworld Corp., the Department of Transportation (DOTr), and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to evaluate how the technology can enhance logistics operations.

The initiative aims to explore new technologies that could help serve communities better, as Grab Managing Director Ronald Roda emphasized on Tuesday.

Initial tests will be conducted between two Megaworld properties in Manila, involving select consumers and merchant partners. The pilot program will test a hybrid delivery model where drones manage deliveries from primary hubs to dedicated drone landing stations, while Grab riders handle the last mile to customers.

The project seeks to address traffic bottlenecks and reduce road congestion caused by traditional delivery vehicles, aiming for faster order fulfillment.

If successful, Grab plans to expand drone delivery services to more locations nationwide, potentially offering benefits in hard-to-reach areas and underserved communities.
