Palace to comply with SC ruling on PhilHealth zero subsidy

Malacañang stated it will comply with the Supreme Court's decision regarding a petition challenging the constitutionality of the zero subsidy for the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).

Cardiologist Tony Leachon filed a petition before the Supreme Court to halt the implementation of Republic Act No. 12116, which non-allocates funds for PhilHealth.

Palace Press Officer Atty. Claire Castro said that the government will abide by the Supreme Court's decision on whether or not to reinstate subsidies for PhilHealth.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. justified the removal of subsidies, citing PhilHealth's multibillion-peso reserves and unused funds.

Marcos Jr. claimed that PhilHealth has sufficient budget to carry out its operations without government funding.
