GOCCs receive P7.92B in subsidies, down 18.73% y-o-y

Government-owned and -controlled corporations (GOCCs) received P7.92 billion in subsidies in May 2025, a decrease of 18.73% year on year.

The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) was the largest recipient with P3.54 billion, followed by the National Electrification Administration and the National Food Authority with P1.25 billion and P750 million respectively.

Other GOCCs receiving subsidies included the Philippine Heart Center, Sugar Regulatory Administration, and the Philippine Coconut Authority among others, while some firms received no subsidies at all.

Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. Chief Economist Michael L. Ricafort suggested that this decrease could be part of fiscal reform measures to prioritize mission-critical items for economic growth.

As of May 15, the Department of Finance had collected P76 billion in GOCC dividends and the budget deficit widened by 29.41% year on year to P523.9 billion in the first five months.
