GMA Kapuso Foundation aids 7,090 Julian-hit Batanes families

Residents in Batanes affected by Super Typhoon Julian have received relief goods from the GMA Kapuso Foundation through its Operation Bayanihan project.

The foundation, with assistance from the Office of Civil Defense, flew to Batanes on Saturday to deliver aid to evacuees, including more than 600 families on Sabtang Island.

According to data from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) - Batanes, 7,090 families were affected by Julian, with 2,124 houses damaged, including 256 that were completely destroyed.

Among those impacted are residents of Barangay Sumnanga in Sabtang Island who experienced heavy flooding and destruction to their livelihoods due to the typhoon.

Eight families remain in an evacuation center in Basco due to severe damage to their homes, including those affected by Typhoon Kiko in 2021.

GMA Kapuso Foundation is scheduled to return on Saturday to distribute additional relief goods to other affected residents and continues its disaster relief efforts for the communities in Batanes.
