Gilas Youth wins 6th straight gold at FIBA U16 SEABA Qualifiers

Gilas Pilipinas Youth secured the gold medal in the FIBA U16 Asia Cup SEABA Qualifiers with a decisive 70-40 victory over Indonesia on Friday evening at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando, Pampanga.

The final match saw Gilas Youth dominate from the start, opening with a commanding 21-5 lead and maintaining their dominance throughout to clinch their sixth consecutive gold medal.

Despite facing initial challenges against Malaysia earlier, Gilas Youth concluded the tournament with an impressive average winning margin of 39 points, ensuring their perfect record (6-0) and securing their spot in the FIBA Asia U16 Cup in Mongolia this July.

Coach LA Tenorio highlighted the team's performance, emphasizing their defensive effort and noting Gab de los Reyes' standout 11-point, 13-rebound contribution alongside Jhustin Hallare’s 13 points.

Delos Reyes was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player for his consistent performance throughout the six contests.

The Philippines will now represent Southeast Asia, along with Indonesia and Malaysia, in the FIBA Asia U16 Cup in Mongolia this July.
